Themes & age groups
Water
Students reflect on the importance of water, its relationship with plants, climate change and desertification.
They deepen their knowledge of the water cycle and how different shapes in the landscape influence water infiltration, and the impact of the amount of organic matter on water retention in soils.
Year 1 - Who lives in the Ria?
Objectives:
- Get to know the diversity of living beings and non-living forms in the Ria landscape;
- Locating the Ria on a simple map, understanding how water flows from the mountains to the sea;
- Locate, based on observation, natural and human elements in the landscape;
- Observe the importance of the sun and water;
- Understand the importance of the estuary for the life cycle of birds, fish and other animals.
4th Grade - Planting Water
Objectives:
- Observe the different shapes and places where there is water in the landscape;
- Understand the importance of water and how we can help to combat pollution;
- Explore various actions that help keep water clean and increase water infiltration and retention in the soil;
- Understand how water causes erosion and try out strategies to prevent it.
Soils
An in-depth discovery of one of our most important natural resources. Let's experience the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils.
We will learn about innovative farming methods that can regenerate soils and all natural ecosystems.
2nd Year - Planet Earth
Objectives:
- Understand how living beings depend on water and soil, observing the adaptations of plants and animals in different habitats;
- Know the phases of the water cycle and its importance for living beings;
- Learn about compost and its importance in retaining and infiltrating water into the soil;
- Understand the role of human beings in protecting water, soil and living beings.
5th Grade - Living Soils
Objectives:
- Identify soil horizons and components through field tests;
- Understand soil food webs and their importance for health and plants;
- Observe the relationship between plant and soil health and animal health;
- Nourish the soil of an organic garden and plant seeds of native plants.
Biodiversity
Participants have the opportunity to learn about the diversity of plant species and living beings, as well as their functions.
We explore the interconnection between human health and nutrition, as well as plant health and diversity, with a focus on organic, local and seasonal agriculture.
Year 3 - Vegetable garden for everyone
Objectives:
- Explore food webs in the organic garden to understand their relationship with soil health;
- Understanding desertification, and how we can regenerate soils through organic farming and the regeneration of natural ecosystems;
- Learn about different seeds of native, aromatic, invasive and edible plants;
- Nourish the soil of an organic garden with compost and plant a variety of crops.
6th Grade - Nutrition and Health
Objectives:
- Identify the main nutrients, and in which elements of the ecosystem they are produced;
- Understand the interconnection between healthy soils, sustainable agriculture and quality nutrition;
- Observe the relationship between plant and soil health and human health;
- Preparing healthy food in a fun way, gaining motivation for sustainable eating.
Collaboration
Group and cooperation activities designed to encourage group work and unity among all the participants
members of a class or group.
Students are invited to participate and overcome group challenges, using non-violent communication tools to achieve their goal.
5th - 12th Grade
